Lead the Supply Chain business office function by managing the financial, budgetary, operating reporting, labor assessment, rebate, cost accounting, KPI, and invoice-management routines that allow Enterprise Supply Chain leaders to manage the business with discipline. This manager supports all Supply Chain verticals by producing monthly operating reports, analyzing budget and labor variances, managing rebates and cost accounting activity, coordinating invoices for SCM services, and maintaining the standard business office processes that connect operating performance to financial accountability.
Work Arrangement – Hybrid – This is not a remote position, it is a full-time position located in Durham, NC.

Primary Accountability Areas
SCM Business Office Leadership
- Lead the SCM business office function across all Supply Chain verticals, creating consistent financial management, operating reporting, and business discipline for the enterprise function.
- Serve as the central business office partner for Supply Chain leaders, helping translate budget, labor, cost, rebate, invoice, and KPI information into clear management action.
- Create standard routines for budget management, monthly reporting, variance review, labor assessment, cost accounting, rebate tracking, and invoice oversight.
Budgeting and Financial Management
- Coordinate annual and recurring budget processes for Supply Chain, including budget planning, budget maintenance, financial review routines, and leadership-ready summaries.
- Monitor operating performance against budget and identify variances, trends, risks, and corrective actions that require leadership attention.
- Partner with Finance and Supply Chain leaders to ensure budgets, forecasts, actuals, commitments, and financial assumptions are documented and understood.
- Monthly Operating Reports, Variance Analysis and KPIs
- Produce monthly operating reports that summarize financial performance, labor performance, key operating indicators, risks, and actions across Supply Chain verticals.
- Lead variance analysis for budget, labor, expense, service, and operating measures, ensuring leaders understand the reason for variance and the path to resolution.
- Maintain KPI reporting routines that give leaders reliable visibility to business performance, labor utilization, expense management, invoice activity, and operating discipline.
Labor Assessments and Workforce Financial Review
- Support labor assessments that evaluate staffing levels, position actions, vacancy impact, labor spend, restructuring assumptions, and budget alignment across Supply Chain.
- Maintain labor-related reporting tools and summaries that help leaders understand headcount, position control, cost impact, vacancies, and productivity indicators.
- Coordinate with HR, Finance, and Supply Chain leaders when labor analysis affects restructuring, business cases, operating plans, or leadership decision-making.
Rebates, Cost Accounting and Financial Controls
- Manage rebate tracking, validation, reporting, and follow-up so expected supplier, program, or contract-related rebates are visible and appropriately accounted for.
- Support cost accounting activities that allocate, explain, and report Supply Chain costs in a way that is transparent to leaders and aligned with finance expectations.
- Improve controls and documentation around business office activity so financial assumptions, reporting methods, and results are explainable and auditable.
SCM Services Invoice Management
- Manage invoices for SCM services, including intake, review, routing, issue resolution, documentation, and coordination with Finance, suppliers, service owners, and operational leaders.
- Create standard work for invoice review, approval support, exception management, aging follow-up, and escalation of invoice concerns or service discrepancies.
- Use invoice activity to identify trends, risks, service issues, budget pressure, and opportunities to improve process discipline or supplier accountability.
Team Leadership and Standard Work
- Lead a Budget Analyst responsible for supporting budget tracking, financial analysis, reporting preparation, labor review, rebate tracking, and invoice management activities.
- Create standard work, calendars, templates, dashboards, workpapers, and review routines that make the SCM business office function consistent and repeatable.
- Build a service-oriented business office culture that is accurate, responsive, confidential, analytical, and trusted by Supply Chain leaders and Finance partners.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,026.00 to USD $88,434.00.
